The Design.

The unique, textural surface of the Pixel Cushions is brought to life using an overshot weave – a traditional technique that combines a plain (tabby) weave with floating weft threads to create a raised, geometric design with a dynamic, dimensional appearance.
Paired with a contemporary palette, these cushions covers add a bold, graphic and contemporary feel to your living space.
Woven on our mid-century Saurer shuttle loom – a rare piece of weaving technology that completes our collection at the Mungo Mill, and which was donated to us by South Africa’s pre-eminent mohair weaver, Jan Paul Barnard.

Fibres and Feel

The Pixel Cushions are woven using a cotton warp to provide vibrant colour clarity. The wool and mohair in the weft adds rich texture and warmth. The final fabric has a pixelated appearance, full of light and shadows, that lends depth and interest to any interior.
The final fibre composition is 50% cotton, 45% wool, and 5% mohair – a balance that offers structure, softness and texture.

From Our Designer

“By enlarging the block layout, using some vibrant colours, and incorporating yarns with varying textures, we were able to create this graphic, textural effect – something that feels quite contemporary. The final cloth is full of dimensional blocks, contrasts and shadows. At the same time, there’s this very traditional weave structure. So it becomes a fabric that’s both modern and rooted in tradition. This old-meets-new design approach is very true to Mungo and how we work – drawing on contemporary palettes, aesthetics and influences, while using traditional weaving techniques and technologies (like our antique shuttle looms) to create something that’s both modern and timeless.”
